The Honorable Brian D. Montgomery has over 25 years of corporate and public service experience, with expertise in the modernization of policies and practices in government, particularly in housing, mortgages and the secondary mortgage markets.

Brian is the Vice Chairman of The Collingwood Group LLC, a Washington, DC based business advisory firm designed to serve the needs of corporate and government entities seeking new lines of business or strategic counsel on a range of issues within the mortgage industry, financial services, and secondary markets.

In June 2005, Brian was confirmed by the US Senate as Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner within the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In response to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan’s request at the start of the Obama Administration, Brian continued to serve in this role until July 2009, assisting with transition matters involving the Federal Housing Administration and subprime mortgage crisis.

Brian previously served on multiple boards including the Federal Housing Finance Board (2005-2008), the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 Oversight Board (2008-2009), and NeighborWorks America Board where he also served as Chair of the Corporate Administration Committee (2005-2009). Among many awards and recognition, Brian received the Robert J. Coretta Award for Achievement in Affordable Housing and the National Association of Hispanic Realtors Chairman’s Award, both in 2008.

Prior to his appointment with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Brian served in the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary from 2003-2005 as well as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Advance from 2001-2003. Following the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, Brian led a White House working group to monitor all aspects of the accident investigation. For his role in this effort, Brian was awarded the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 2004.

Previously, Brian held senior level positions in at both the Texas Department of Commerce and Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs between 1995 and 1999. From 1990 until 1993 he served in the Executive Office of President George H.W. Bush at the White House. Earlier in his career, Brian spent several years as a marketing executive in the chemical processing industry.

Brian is a graduate of the University of Houston and also attended the University of Texas.
